sorry for the very late reply againnnn -_-
I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but my parents come from Bucharest. I havent been all that in touch with these roots, but i would like to immerse a lil more in the history and culture at some point.
I have basically moved to AniList for list updates, but I occasionally check MAL to update interest stacks or check reviews/discussions. I'm honestly not really following any seasonals at all lmao, I do check what comes out and what seems interesting, but only start watching them once theyre completed. But speaking in general terms, I do wanna push back against notions that older anime was better or vice versa. Different periods have different tendencies. The mid 90s-mid 00s had many shows with a "2YK aesthetic" (Satoshi Kon, Yoshitoshi ABe etc.) which shared an interesting range of sensibilities, but which has completely disappeared by now. On the other hand, one only needs to occasionally check SakugaBlog or AniFem to see there have been plenty of exciting developments in "modern anime" (however you define that), in recent years in particular: more room for female creators, better representation of minorities, more emphasis on expressive instead of simply impressive animation in mainstream productions, a renaissance of original and niche anime.
so im not exactly a doomer, but i obviously keep hoping for more good developments :)
im not sure how working conditions have developed tho, i hope theyve improved somewhat, but probably not T_T
really depends on the studio id say, kyoani is known for its nurturing work climate, and cypic have said they wish to improve conditions, though idk the acutal results of that ambition. im hoping for the best!
Mushishi is really good, really liked that one! I havent seen SAC yet, but ive heard very good things about it, so i really want to
As for Uma Musume, I went in blind so idk lol, ive only seen Road to the Top and Beginning of a New Era.
Season 1-3 are the main series, the movies and the cinderella grey series are spin offs. From what I understand, the spin offs can be watched seperately. Beginning of a New Era is a soft sequel of Road to the Top, thats it i think? Reading the Premise chapter of the Wikipedia page might be helpful.
Oooooo, I am Romanian! :D (well, have romanian roots to be exact, i dont speak the language), but that sounds like an interesting book!
Im almost done with U149, and ive been positively surprised. If it hadnt been made by Cypic, I might not have watched it. Im a bit skeptical with the whole 'child celebrity industrial machine' so i worried a little bit about how it would portray this topic. It emphasized that these children are, indeed, children, who require care, guidance and plenty of time and space to BE children. The idol activities are at one point compared to sports, and that is what it ideally should be like: working hard towards a goal in your spare time (not a full time job with heavy burdens and responsibilities). The producer and his office basically serve a double purpose of workplace and daycare. I also appreciate that the series makes clear this is not the industry norm; the higher ups regularly antagonize the producer for his 'lack of maturity' in handling his idol unit.
So yeah, that was that. Have fun with the EoE screening! Im also gonna rewatch with a friend of mine, not in the cinema tho :')
Sorry for the late response, ive been a bit less active on MAL lately, so thats why -_-
Im done rewatching two of my fav series, Zombie Land Saga and Neon Genesis Evangelion. The former because the movie that came out a year ago or so, the latter because a friend of mine was interested. The movie had a twist at the start that I felt mixed about, but at the end it redeemed itself in spades. With Eva its been really fun to gush about foreshadowing and lore to my friend who is new to the whole thing ^^
I also recently saw the Uma Musume movies, the animation is gorgeous! Cypic is defenitely one of the more interesting studios for me lately
Ive got a whole steam library, but i havent gotten to it yet lmao, but the last game i played was Disco Elysium, which was completely my jam with its blend of irony, affect and contemplation.
My ereader also has a whole untouched library, im way too ambitious lol
Oh ive also been rewatching Cowboy Bebop with the anime club im in, im noticing many more things that in high school completely flew over my head
How are you? Anything you like to share? ^~^
PS: i looked through the U149 mal forum and saw your comment! Yeah so im ALSO watching Imas U149 lol, and again, the art and animation by Cypic has been really good. I wasnt sure about the premise, but so far i mostly like how its been handled!
Let's hope so :-).
