The 13th and final episode of Golden Kamuy: Saishuushou (Golden Kamuy Final Season) announced an anime sequel adapting the Bousou Ressha-hen (Runaway Train arc) on Monday. The official website also revealed a teaser visual (pictured). The sequel is scheduled to be released next Winter.

Golden Kamuy adapts Satoru Noda's historical adventure manga, which serialized in Young Jump magazine from August 2014 to April 2022. Shueisha shipped the 31st and final volume in July 2022. The manga has a cumulative 30 million copies in circulation.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in October 2016 and released the 29th volume on December 21. The 31st and final volume went on sale in January 2024.

The first three seasons produced by Geno Studio aired in Spring 2018, Fall 2018, and Fall 2020, each running for 12 episodes. The fourth season, produced by Brain's Base, began airing on October 3 but had a 6-month delay after episode six due to the death of an important staff member. The fifth season aired in Winter 2026. Crunchyroll and Funimation streamed all five seasons with subtitles and an English dub, respectively.

Golden Kamuy ranked first in the 9th Manga Taisho rankings, received the Grand Prize in the 22nd Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and placed seventh in the male readers' division in the 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings.

Just like AOT, the final season being just 95% of the content, with the final bit released separately

@komic So, splitting seasons into separate cour "parts" is now outdated, and now we're literally getting episodes separated from the show, disguised as specials? It's like a game sequel that's actually just massive DLC.

The final final of the final season, hurra!

That goes like: We've come to the peak, let's push manga first then have a go at movie.

I’m sure there are broadcasting obstacles that contribute to what I’m about to bring up being uncommon, but I wish unorthodox episode counts were more of a thing. Could just have this season be 16 or 17 episodes and it completes the adaptation rather than having us wait to see, according to manga readers, 12 more chapters adapted.

They have like 2-3 episodes worth material left.

@Tekakurika
It's a direct sequel to Golden Kamuy Final Season. Golden Kamuy Final Season is not the real final of this anime series.

It could be a movie or TV special. Since it will be aired in winter and has only a few episodes left, it could also be something like a TV special during Christmas or New Year as well. Something similar to Watanare Specials

Should have called it the final Season Part 1

Mar 30, 10:09 AM by Mattinator95

I dont understand. So this is like spin-off or side story?

Mar 30, 10:06 AM by Tekakurika

My first time getting duped by the "Final Season" label... Why do they do this. Were they at first going to adapt all the rest, but did they run into production/scheduling issues some time after the announcement?

god this is turning into another AOT situation isn't it?

Mar 30, 9:39 AM by komic

so the final season is actually not the final season, heh.
